DEVAULT NOTHING BUT YOU

Hailing from Orange County, songwriter and producer Devault is set to be a big name on the US pop scene, having already stepped his project up from a bedroom hobby to collaborating with Bipolar Sunshine and Njomza. Following on from supergroup collab ‘Stay’ and bold pop single ‘Steele’, Devault is back with even more lucid electronics in the dreamy ‘Nothing But You’. It’s an eclectic and hedonistic electronic pop song that welcomes mainstream melodies as much as it does left-field production, building layers of acapella vocals, chunky beats, and choral synths keys into a dizzying kaleidoscope of sound. The production is so succinct and lively, you could easily convince an unwitting listener that this is a bonus b-side from Jamie xx’s In Colour LP, but unlike the UK producer, Devault brings his own American pop edge to the track. Each burst of dance-worthy synths is put on hold for digitised vocals that provide a passive, but melodious, narrative to this all-or-nothing love song. It’s the kind of track you’ll want to play over and over again, singing along to the earworm vocals and stepping to the intricate, intravenous production. - Hannah Thacker
